Kingdom of the Tree

Landscape

The observation of nature will teach you all you need to know

RHINOOT

Preparation & Excercises

You always need to take some time to get rooted back into nature. Let’s embark together on a nurturing journey into the world of landscape art.

In the tree kingdom, you’ll learn to capture the beauty of nature’s textures, master the art of overlapping to create depth, and unlock the secrets of atmospheric perspective, also known as color shifting.

You’ll also gain an understanding of the changing seasons: you’ll uncover the unique attributes that each season brings to the canvas, allowing you to paint landscapes that come alive with the spirit of spring blooms, summer sunsets, autumnal hues, and winter wonderlands.

So, let’s charge ahead with the force of a rhino as we learn nature’s secrets and branch out as landscape artists!

Master Oamie’s Thoughts

When I create a landscape drawing, I mentally walk myself through the image as though I was observing the landscapes details during a hike. You can only take in so much. Some details are remembered and some are not noticed.

Design and Preparation

Planning your project requires starting with small ideas, much like planting tiny seeds in soil. Some of these “idea seeds” will take root and begin to sprout into seedlings. By carefully cultivating your ideas and preparing your canvas, these seedlings of inspiration will develop strong roots, eventually growing into a sturdy trunk that forms the foundation for your landscape art project.

You’ll have to delve into choosing your medium. Will you opt for the vibrant solid hues of pastel, evoking the warmth of a summer sunset, or will you embrace the delicate gentle colors feel of oil pastels, capturing the softness of spring blossoms?

Perhaps we’ll venture into the autumnal realm, where oil pastels bring the golden tones of falling leaves to life, or maybe we’ll explore the icy landscapes of winter, where pastel shades mingle with frosty scenes.

The choice is yours to make, and through research and contemplation, you’ll select the perfect medium to bring our artistic vision to fruition.

Just like the roots of a tree, your brain will weave from one idea to another as you research and decide on the climate, perspective, and location… your masterpiece waiting to bloom.

Master Oamie’s Thoughts

As objects are set further in the distance, they are effected bu what we call atmospheric perspective. Simply adding the complimentary ocolor of that obejct will create the natural effects of atmosheric perspective.

As we charge ahead with our project, let’s channel the spirit of the mighty rhino! Just like a rhino lowers its head, points its horn, and confidently foot stomps, creating clouds of dust before charging, let’s lower our heads and eyes to our art paper. Let’s make our concentration as sharp as a rhino’s horn, and let’s focus on our canvas!

Let’s harness the strength and energy of the rhino as we bring our creative visions to life, but let’s also allow our vision to grow slowly and calmly, as a plant grows from a seed to a mighty oak tree. Tiny ideas, like seeds, can grow into strong, confident masterpieces. Just be sure to capture the feeling of the season and the vibrant essence of the climate with color.

Master Oamie’s Thoughts

Digital landscape is all the rage. Video game companies, movie studios, and children’s book publishing houses all depend on artist to create the scenes that will attract the viewers eyes.
