Isometric Perspective

Here we’ll look into the electrifying world of one-point perspective. One-point perspective is a linear drawing method that illustrates how objects appear to diminish in size as they recede into the distance, converging towards a single ‘vanishing point’ on the horizon line.

Filippo Brunelleschi, the visionary artist of the Renaissance in the 15th century, towered above his peers when he pioneered the one-point perspective system. Before his groundbreaking discoveries, most images lacked accuracy or were rendered in isometric perspective. It took us a long time to unravel the secrets of true depth perception in art! But Brunelleschi, like the tallest of giraffes could see what was missing in perspective drawing.

Once you have finished your one-point perspective exercises, you’ll work on a quick “interior of floating shapes” project. First, you’ll draw an interior of a room and fill it with shapes. Then, using your single vanishing point, you’ll give each object depth on the z-axis, bringing your artwork to life in three dimensions.

Master Oamie’s Thoughts

If you are as old as me then you might recall a game called Qbert. That was my inspiration for learning isometric perspective.

My favorite perspective project in high school was the one perspective exploding name project!

Two Point Perspective

Two-point perspective, an electrifying feat of artistic brilliance, was showcased around the year 1525 by the German painter and woodcut artist, Albrecht Dürer, during the Northern Renaissance.

Two-point perspective may not be as daunting for you as a giraffe bending down to drink water from the river’s edge, but it might feel a bit awkward at first. Remember to draw your guidelines as lightly as possible, ensuring they are distinct but also erasable when needed. You don’t want them to be visible in the final piece.

You’ll get plenty of practice as you work on your Oam Exercise Sheets, preparing you for your two-point perspective project. This stage is always exhilarating because your creativity knows no bounds. You might consider drawing a spaceship zipping through starlit space with planets and suns in the distance, or perhaps a cityscape teeming with towering giraffes.

Master Oamie’s Thoughts

This is a very complex system that require’s lots of concentration, organization, and prudence.
