We are seeking a Pottery Instructor to join our team at Oam Studios Art Academy in Pleasanton. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced potter who wants to teach both beginners and advanced students the art of pottery. You’ll be responsible for leading classes in a dynamic, creative environment while helping students develop their skills and appreciation for ceramics.
Key Responsibilities:
– Teach pottery classes for students of various skill levels, including wheel-throwing, hand-building, glazing, and firing techniques.
– Create a positive, supportive, and engaging classroom environment.
– Develop lesson plans and course materials tailored to students’ needs and skill levels.
– Provide constructive feedback to help students improve their craft.
– Guide students through the creative process, from initial design concepts to final glazed pieces.
– Manage class materials and supplies, ensuring students have what they need for a successful class.
– Organize and participate in student exhibitions and pottery sales events.
– Assist in studio maintenance and ensure a clean and safe working environment.
– Potentially teach private lessons or small group workshops, as well as adult and kids’ classes.
Requirements:
– Proven experience as a potter, with a solid portfolio demonstrating expertise in wheel-throwing and hand-building techniques.
– Prior teaching or tutoring experience is a plus, but not required.
– Strong communication skills and a passion for sharing your knowledge with others.
– Patience, enthusiasm, and the ability to work with students of varying abilities.
– Ability to create structured lesson plans and teach both technical skills and artistic concepts.
– A friendly, approachable demeanor with a focus on encouraging creativity in a collaborative classroom environment.
– Flexibility to adapt to different teaching formats (group classes, workshops, private lessons, etc.).
Hours & Compensation:
– Classes typically take place throughout the week depending on student scheduling.
– Flexible teaching hours depending on student demand and class schedules.
– Compensation is based on experience, with opportunities for additional income through private lessons or workshops.
– The position offers the potential for growth within the studio, including involvement in special events, exhibitions, and community outreach programs.
